Paul L. Nunez PhD is Emeritus Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Tulane University and runs a small consulting firm Cognitive Dissonance LLC that works on neuroscience projects with the University of California (mainly the Irvine and San Diego campuses). He is author of over 100 scientific papers on electroencephalography (EEG) and related dynamic behavior in brains and other complex systems. He is also the author of six books, including The New Science of Consciousness: Exploring the Complexity of Brain, Mind, and Self (2016), Brain, Mind, and the Structure of Reality (2010) and Electric Fields of the Brain: The Neurophysics of EEG (2006), published by either Prometheus Books or Oxford University Press. Nunez holds BS and MS degrees in aerospace engineering from the University of Florida in Gainesville. He has a Ph.D. in engineering physics and postdoctoral training in the neurosciences, both from the University of California at San Diego. His hobbies include writing historical fiction under the pen name Scott Spade.
